Field recording for sound design

So today I spent the day outside recording some nature sound so that I can implement them at some point either into the game I am currently working on or a project in the future. I recently purchased a zoom F8 field recorder and equipped with the X-Y pair and windshield i was ready to record sounds such as water from streams and also ambiences. Although most of the sounds came out great, there are a few instances that I could have negated by monitoring the sounds through headphones. Once organising the sounds later on I noticed there was distortion on a few takes, although it did not help me having the pre gain to the maximum (even though it did not seem to clip on the screen). This new purchase will allow me to further develop sounds banks of my own to use on future projects.
