Creating Robot Sounds

I thought i would give creating robot sounds a whirl by using sounds that i recorded in my car and using the hoover. I used my Zoom H6 to capture these sounds, using a windshield when recording in the car due to the bad weather at the time. I first used some compression to raise the lower levels of the sound and used IzotopeTrash2 to get some distinctive artificial sounds from the windows opening and shutting in the car. Experimenting with different EQ's was important to give the sound some characteristic and being a little aggressive with limiter to bring down some of the peaks. Interestingly i used some of the audiosuite plugins for the hoover such as Vari-Fi to change the speed and tone of the vacuum to gain more movement to the sound to maybe suggest robot limb movement. Adding some time based effects to the car locking sound and pitching this gave the sound a timbre and tonality suitable for a deep resonate footstep sound. You can listen to the sounds i created in the video below, demonstrating each sound individually and then all in conjunction.
