Shut the Gate

I wonder if it is just human intuition to abuse something they find pleasurable until they fully understand its functions, and disruptiveness. Such as drugs, Beer, caffeine.. Noise Gates?
Ever since finding out about the capabilities of Noise Gates I find myself applying them to generally most things on a mix. Theres an unhealthy obsession with cutting bleed out of everything that I won't reason any other way of amending. Is there a bad microphone placement, how about capturing that again? No i'l just add a Gate thank you very much. I know that this should not be abused as much as I do although it helps me come to terms with the benefits and implications of using in different manners, and so to me if it makes something sound better, then why change it? Something maybe a drug addict would say.
In essence, if it helps me learn then i'l continue abusing their functions like a child playing with his toy until it breaks. Then I will try to put it back together and move on swiftly, lets say.. multiband compressors?
